What Headset Does Shroud Use

Talking about Fortnite streamers and their gaming headsets is one of the most popular topics in the gaming world. If you like to enter this debate now and then, you’ve certainly heard of Shroud.

On the other hand, if you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, Shroud is a pretty massive and popular e-sports player who did well in CS: GO. Of course, he’s stepped down from professional gaming, but he still streams regularly through Twitch. As such, I’m sure many of you have watched his streams and are wondering what kind of headset he uses.

What Headset Does Shroud Use?

According to his twitch page, Shroud uses the HyperX Cloud Flight Wireless Gaming Headset, a pretty good headset that if I do say so myself. I actually have a HyperX headset myself, although not this exact one, and I can say the performance on it is pretty excellent.

As the games practically fall under the same genre, we would also recommend HyperX Cloud Flight Wireless if you’re looking for a great PUBG headset.

Wireless headsets and wireless peripherals in general, tend to get a pretty bad rap due to connectivity issues. Lower sample rates, issues with polling, or just weird glitches are some of the complaints people tend to have. Thankfully, the HyperX Cloud Flight doesn’t have any of these issues, which is good considering it costs a hefty penny.

As you can tell from the specs, the audio quality is pretty good. While the headset isn’t the “bassiest” you can find, the lows are indeed emphasized, along with the highs, and it seems the mids aren’t boosted as much as the rest of the frequency range. I doubt most people would notice that in the mids, and overall, it does makes the sound much more β€˜alive’ for lack of a better word.

That being said, some people have complained about a weird buzz that happens at all volumes, although that could be an issue with grounding or electronic interference.

In terms of design, it’s closed back and fits quite tightly on the head. Since this is meant to be used as a wireless headset, HyperX has made the overall fit much tighter, with the headband putting a bit of pressure on the ears through the somewhat smaller earcups. Don’t let that put you off though, it’s still a very comfortable headset, and after a while, you probably won’t notice the pressure at all.

Noise isolation is pretty well balanced. While you game and have the volume up, you won’t hear any ambient noise or outside sounds, but with the volume down or muted, you could carry on a conversation if you wanted to. This middle-ground tends to be quite useful, especially if you live with other people and so aren’t forced to take off and put on the headset constantly.

Looking at battery life (this is a wireless set after all), you get quite some mileage out of it, at around 30 hours with the volume at 50%. Thankfully it auto-shuts off if it doesn’t detect any sound, so if you’re the kind of person who forgets to switch things off, you’re in luck. Charging is also pretty easy, and you can get it to a full charge in 2 hours using a USB to Micro-USB cable.

All in all, the HyperX Cloud Flight is an excellent all-round headset if you’re interested in getting one; which leads us to the next point…

Should I buy a HyperX Cloud Flight Wireless?

It’s not a bad headset and tends to lie in the mid-range overall of ultimate gaming headsets. There are certainly better ones out there, but if you’re looking for an upgrade from a basic set you have, this is a good option. That being said, if this is your first foray into gaming headsets, you might want to go for something a little bit cheaper.

Of course, my personal opinion is that gaming headsets and headphones are not necessarily a good investment. The reason for that is that they tend to have a lot of β€˜beautification’ or alteration of the sound to make it β€˜nicer.’ While that’s ok if that’s what you’re looking for, you don’t get the original sound that’s intended by the developers.

Either way, though, it’s still a great buy and certainly worth the price tag. But if you’re interested in something a bit less expensive, check out our guide on the best gaming headsets under $100.
