Have you ever wondered what headphones Ninja uses to hear enemies sneaking up on him in Fortnite?
If youโve heard of Fortnite, chances are youโve heard of two things: Ninja, and the floss. Focusing on Ninja, have you ever wondered what headphones rest on his Super Saiyan blue hair? Well, we were curious too, which is why we decided to do some research into Ninjaโs sound setup.
Which Headset Does Ninja Use?
Owning a good pair of headphones is essential to ensure you can hear enemy gunshots, allowing you to get a better understanding of where your opponents are positioned. If you are unable to hear where your enemies are, chances are you’ll take an L…and we arenโt talking about the emote either.
Ninja’s Headset: Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro – $131.50
Ninja’s headset is pricey but nevertheless extremely popular among Fortnite fans.
So, maybe the headset that Ninja uses is one of the reasons why he keeps on winning.
Back in June of 2017, Ninja tweeted out the type of headphones that he uses for his setup for sound. Unlike Ninjas microphone, he didnโt have to tweet out and ask people what headphones he should use, but rather he chose them himself.
So, why did he choose the Beyerdynamic DT-990-ย Pro headphones?
Ninja’s Headset
The Beyerdynamic 990 PRO headphones that Ninja use are actually studio headphones that offer a durable and comfortable design.
Ninja definitely relies on soft ear pads, especially when streaming on Twitch for hours on end. The DT990-Pro is a minimalist headphone made out of durable plastic and metal for additional support.
While comfort and durability are necessary, the sound is arguably more important, and these headphones do a great job when it comes to sound quality.
Ninjas headphones have an impedance of 250 Ohms, and a frequency response of 5 to 35,000 Hz. Because these are very high impedance (250 Ohms) headphones, you’ll require more power to deliver high audio levels to prevent any damage.
All of this makes the Beyerdynamic Pro one of the best gaming headsets overall.
The 250 Ohm version of these Beyerdynamic headphones comes in at a whopping $179, yet if you don’t have a mixamp that you can run these headphones, don’t risk damaging them and opt for the 80 Ohm version for $174.95.
Other specs and features of the 250 Ohm Beyerdynamic headphones:
- Headphone Type: Open Back
- Impedance: 250 Ohm
- Cable: 3 m coiled
- Weight: 250 g
Ninja stated in the past that you need a mixamp for better sound to hear footsteps, cars, and gunshots in-game. The ability to hear sounds as small as your opponent’s footsteps will give you a massive advantage, as you will always know when an enemy is nearby.
We mentioned above that you’ll require a mixamp for the 250 Ohm version of the Beyerdynamic headphones, but what mixamp does Ninja use to delivery higher audio levels?
Ninja’s Mixamp
The headphone amplifier that Ninja linked in the tweet made back in 2017, is the Creative Sound Blaster X7 AMP/DAC. This is a stylish looking amp with a matte black finish, along with some gold accents for a more premium look.
Ninja’s Mixamp: Creative Sound Blaster X7ย – $260
For maximum audio enjoyment, we recommend pairing Ninja’s headphones with the mixamp he uses. The whole setup will cost close to $400.
In the box, you’ll receive a headphone stand that you can push into the holes on the back of the amp to store your headphones. Although, this is slightly flimsy, so opt for a better quality headset stand.
The power button on the Sound Blaster X7 doubles as a Bluetooth pairing button that allows you to stream music and movies wirelessly.
While the SBX button enables the pro studio SBX features for premium sound quality. You’ll have to play around with the software before pressing the button, and it’s advised that you enable crystallizer to bring gaming audio to life. All in all, this amp will be a great addition if you already own some of the best wired headsets out there.
You can connect two different headphones with different jack sizes simultaneously, so long as they don’t go over 600 Ohms. If you don’t already have a microphone, a nice addition to this amp is that it comes with a built-in mic. Yet, Ninja has his own separate microphone that he uses for better audio quality in his videos.
You can, however, hook the Sound Blaster X7 up to a PS4 and Xbox One, as well as a PC, which is a very handy feature.
Although the lower impedance (80 Ohm) version of the Beyerdynamic headphones don’t necessarily require a mixamp, having a headphone amp will improve sound quality significantly. Final Words
All in all, Ninjas sound setup – the Beyerdynamic headphones and the Sound Blaster X7 AMP – adds up to a hefty $578.97 ($478.97 on sale). However, if you aren’t a competitive player, you could get away with just purchasing the 80 Ohm headphones.
