The launch of the Switch console from Nintendo is still a powerful and successful tool used by the Japanese electronics company. It has been almost four years since, and Nintendo keeps on launching new games for its console.
But how did Nintendo arrive up until this moment? Some of you may recall the 1989 and early ‘90s moments when Game Boy was released. At that time, the company already had 100 years of existence. Together with Tetris, the console had 118 million unit sales. Then, Super Mario Land released also Game Boy, and the world liked it a lot.
The ‘90s were a smash, with Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo 64, Virtual Boy, and Game Boy Color. Super Nintendo featured some classics like Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Street Fighter, or Final Fantasy.
And then came the 2000s, when the company upgraded to a Nintendo DS console, and later on to Wii console. Nintendo 3DS and Wii U followed before the mobile apps took over. The first such was Miitomo, in 2016.
The company’s games also became an inspiration for other industries, like playing casino games. For example, the slot Reel Rush developed by NetEnt is a game with symbols and sounds from the Nintendo world. In Reel Rush, you can find the familiar green coloring pipes, the mushrooms, the stars, and coins from the Super Mario games. The slot has five reels, each with three symbols, and an RTP of almost 97%.
If all these don’t make up for a great gaming company, then in March 2017 came the Nintendo Switch. This console has a hybrid design – both home and handheld consoles. The worldwide sales of the console reached 55 million units after three years, and around 400 million games. By the start of 2018, the console became the fastest-selling in both Japan and the United States.
The best-sold games are Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, each with more than 20 million copies sold worldwide. The other three very successful titles were The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Pokémon Sword and Shield, and Super Mario Odyssey. Some even consider this newest console as being the best one from Nintendo.
Later, in September 2018, the Nintendo Switch Online suite of features was launched. It included online multiplayer, cloud saving, voice chat, promos, and offers, all these requiring the purchase of a subscription. But the fans weren’t set back, on the contrary: 20 months later, the company reported a 75% increase in income compared to the previous fiscal year, and this was due to the Switch Online feature.
The Switch console competes with Xbox One from Microsoft, and with PlayStation 4 from Sony, and up until this moment it has been sold in more than 70 million copies worldwide.
What to expect from Nintendo Switch in the future? Best games on the market and the next to be released
According to Metacritic, the best game for Nintendo Switch is Hades, which was released in September 2020. The game takes you into the mythical world of gods, heroes, and legends of Ancient Greece. Almost the same success had Ori and the Will of the Wisps, which was released in the same month.
If you want something brand new and freshly released this month, then there are Sniper Elite 4 and Pure Pool, all three launched in November. The fans are waiting for other famous titles, including Mortal Kombat, Need for Speed, or Doom Eternal which will be digital-only on the Nintendo Switch platform.
But if we were to choose a single game to focus on the next months, that would be Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which is set 100 years before the evens of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, to explore Hyrule’s past. In this game, you can learn more about Zelda, the king of Hyrule, and also experience the events of the Great Calamity.
Through this game, the players can witness what happened 100 years ago. Zelda and many others use their abilities to battle hundreds of enemies to save the kingdom of Hyrule from calamity.
Bottom line, Nintendo Switch is the ultimate gaming experience from one of the industry’s giants and is chosen by most people because it works in both handhelds and docked mode. So, it suits perfectly when you are traveling, going out, commuting, almost in all “remote” situations. On the other hand, if multiplayer on the couch is your thing, then you can switch to enjoying the games on a full-size TV.
In a recent review, the New York Times recommended the Switch Pro Controller and the Joy-Con grips to go with it, and as the first games to buy – Super Mario Odyssey and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. And wonder about some fine Nintendo Switch Black Friday deals? Here are some of them.
