There’s one other glaring similarity that players can identify right off the bat. Both games give players the freedom to make choices, which can end up changing the story and ending completely. Plus, both games take place in a planetary system outside of our own. In fact, fans of The Outer Worlds were probably already fans of Mass Effect 2 since it was released nine years prior.

The game was announced in 2012, went into development in 2016, and was released in 2020. Despite the hype that the title has garnered over a period of eight years, astute gamers were quick to point out that The Outer Worlds is the subjectively better game. However, that doesn’t mean that Obsidian fans won’t appreciate the work that CD Projekt put into the Cyberpunk universe.
