How to Download Minecraft Maps

How to Download Minecraft Maps on PC

As Minecraft was originally released for PC, it’s only fair that we begin our guide with how to download maps on Minecraft for PC. But before we begin, you must first find a website that you can use to search for and download Minecraft maps. In this guide, we will fittingly be using Minecraft maps, an unofficial fansite used to download a range of Minecraft worlds.

Once you have made your way over to the website of your choice, you’ll have to look for a map you find appealing and download it. Here’s how to download and add a map to your Minecraft saves:

  1. Find and select a map that you wish to download
  2. Click on the “Download Minecraft Map” button on the map’s page
  3. Unzip the folder to extract the files
  4. Select the map folder by clicking on it
  5. Copy the folder by pressing either Ctrl + C on Windows or Command + C on Mac. Alternatively, you could drag and drop the folder to your desktop
  6. Next, press the WIN key and R together to open the Run command
  7. Type “%appdata%” into the text box and select OK
  8. Open the .minecraft folder
  9. Find and open the saves folder
  10. Paste or drag the Minecraft map folder into the saves folder

How to Use Minecraft Maps on PC

Once you have added the Minecraft map folder to the Minecraft saves folder, it’s time to start playing on it in Minecraft. Here’s how to find and play on your chosen map:

  1. Double-click on the Minecraft Launcher to open it
  2. Click on the Play button
  3. Select “Singleplayer”. You should now see the map that you just downloaded in your saved worlds
  4. Click on the map and press the “Play Selected World” button
  5. If you are asked if you “really wish to load the world”, select “I know what I’m doing!”

How to Download Maps for Minecraft PE (Android and iPhone)

If you prefer to play Minecraft on-the-go, you may wish to download some fun new maps to play on as you travel. This is why we have created a simple step-by-step guide on how to download maps for Minecraft Pocket Edition. Note that for this example, we used the Android application “Maps for Minecraft PE” by Torgue Limited. Albeit, the process is very similar on Apple devices.

  1. Head to the Google Play Store and install “Maps for Minecraft PE” by Torgue Limited. If you own an iPhone, install “Maps for Minecraft PE – Pocket Edition” by KISSAPP, S.L.
  2. Once it has finished installing, open up the application of your choice
  3. Select the map you wish to use and click on the “Install” button to add it to Minecraft
  4. Click “OKAY” when prompted with the “External storage permission is required” popup
  5. Allow the application to access photos and media on your device
  6. Click on the Install button once more and select “Minecraft” from the menu. You will need to have it installed for this to work
  7. Open Minecraft Pocket Edition and load the map that you have just downloaded
