Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll be well aware that FIFA 23 will be the last installment to EA Sports’ blockbuster franchise. The Canada-based game producer and world football’s governing body were unable to come to terms on a new rights deal, which brings to an end the pair’s 29-year relationship. But it seems that if the franchise is to bow out, it’s going out with a bang.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar is barely a week away, and FIFA 23 will be dropping their World Cup DLC on November 10th. France enters the tournament as the reigning champions however, OddsChecker, which compares odds and provides free World Cup offers, has made Brazil the favorite to lift the trophy. And while excitement for the showdown in the desert is already in overdrive, EA Sports have done its utmost to steal the show.
On November 7th, they announced the soundtrack to the upcoming World Cup DLC, and it’s a masterpiece. The company had one last chance to leave a lasting impression on its mega-money series, and they haven’t disappointed. The soundtrack is a compilation of the greatest FIFA tunes, with the game’s producer rightly calling it the “ultimate FIFA soundtrack.”
The Tunes
For years, fabled FIFA gamers have been creating their own custom playlists on platforms such as Spotify and YouTube. And while there have been some fine creations, nothing quite compares to this. You can find the playlist in full online, but here are our favorites:
Aurora – Conqueror (FIFA 16)
Avicii – The Nights (FIFA 15)
Billie Eilish – You Should See Me In A Crown (FIFA 19)
Bloc Party – Helicopter (FIFA 06)
Blur – Song 2 (FIFA 98)
Caesers – Jerk It Out (FIFA 04)
Damian Marley – Welcome To Jamrock (FIFA 06)
Fatboy Slim – The Rockafeller Skank (FIFA 99)
Glass Animals – Heat Waves (FIFA 21)
Imagine Dragons – On Top Of The World (FIFA 13)
John Newman – Love Me Again (FIFA 14)
Kaleo – Way Down We Go (FIFA 16)
Kasabian – Club Foot (FIFA 13)
MGMT – Kids (FIFA 09)
Muse – Supermassive Black Hole (FIFA 07)
Peter Bjorn and John – Young Folks (FIFA 08)
Portugal. The Man – Live In The Moment (FIFA 18)
As we’re sure you’d agree, there are some certified bangers on that list. And even more in the full soundtrack. DJs, the world over may be finding themselves out of work shortly with playlists like this in existence.
The World Cup DLC
While EA Sports hasn’t disappointed anyone with their soundtrack, some gamers were let down that the FIFA World Cup wasn’t a playable game mode from the game’s initial release date on September 27th. Instead, they have had to wait another six weeks to get their World Cup fix. But it looks as though the upcoming update will most definitely be worth the wait.
The highlight of the update, of course, will be a fully playable FIFA World Cup. Gamers will have the chance to take any of the qualified 32 nations and lead them to glory. They will also be able to change history and substitute one nation for another. For example, in real life, Italy was stunned by North Macedonia in qualifying and will miss the World Cup for the second consecutive time. That doesn’t have to be the case in FIFA 23, and you can play as the Azzurri in the tournament.
Also, as a contrast to Konami’s disastrous Euro 2020 DLC – which only featured three of that tournament’s stadia – gamers will be able to fully immerse themselves in all eight of the state-of-the-art stadiums which will be hosting the competition.
There will also be a Live FIFA World Cup game mode, which will allow the players to play through the tournament in real time. For example, when each nation has played through the group stages and the last 16 have been decided, you can lead your nation down its route to the final.
We couldn’t be more excited for both the DLC and the actual FIFA World Cup. Can you?
