ESports Betting in India: Current State and Best eSports Betting Sites

Esports in India is expected to reach a revenue of over 23.51 million USD by the end of 2022. Statista also reports that the expected CAGR of the local eSports market is at 14.48% from 2022 to 2027. This means that the local industry could be valued at over 46.23 million by 2027.

These numbers show how significantly eSports has been growing in India. It’s also no secret that locals not only participate in and follow esports tournaments but also place bets on them.

While cricket betting in India is still the most popular, the esports sector is also bringing in a lot of revenue for betting operators. It’s no wonder why most, if not all, betting sites available in the country are also now offering odds on popular esports events.

Popular Esports Tournaments in India

So, what’re the popular eSports events that Indians love to bet on, play, or simply follow? Here are some of India’s notable eSports tournaments since 2019.

Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGIS)

PUBG has always been a popular eSports game in the country. However, PUBG Mobile got banned in India in September 2020. Many fans were disappointed, of course, but many still kept playing by using VPN and other techniques to play in different regions.

Thankfully, the team behind PUBG found a way for the locals to play the game they oh so love. The following year, Battlegrounds Mobile India was then released and earlier this year was finally when the BGIS started.

Krafton Tesseract Esports organized BGIS and its first-ever season ran from January 13 to 16, 2022. Skylightz Gaming was the team that championed the 1st season and won over 67,000 USD in prizes. TSM, Team XO, and Godlike Esports were the other teams in the top 4.

No official announcements have been made on when the 2022 edition will be. Only the Battlegrounds Mobile India Open Challenge 2022 has taken place this year, with Team Soul getting the 1st spot and qualifying for the World Invitational.

ESL India Premiership

ESL India Premiership is popular because it’s been there forever. The organization behind this is the world’s largest independent league for eSports, established in 1997. It’s a tournament that covers multiple games like CS: GO and Dota 2.

The 2020 ESL India Premiership was one of the most followed tournaments recently. This CS: GO event ran from September 18 to November 23, 2020. The regular season had five stages, and the playoffs had a single elimination bracket.

In the end, BL4ZE Esports was able to champion the tournament and won over 7,000 USD. The other teams that were able to reach the top 4 were 2ez Gaming, Reckoning Esports, and We Own All.

DreamHack

DreamHack is also an ESL Gaming brand that facilitates eSports tournaments and other gaming conventions. It also owns a Guinness Book of Records and Twin Galaxies for being the world’s largest LAN party and PC festival, with the fastest internet connection and most generated traffic.

DreamHack came to India again this year, and the convention ran from November 4 to 6, 2022. One of the highlights of this event is Team XO winning the Clash of Clans Snapdragon Pro Series. The team is reported to have won ₹350,000.

The other teams who made the top 4 list are Rockstar, TWOB, and Marcos Esports.

Betway is one of the most trusted online betting sites worldwide. It may be mainly known as a sports betting site, but it now offers odds on eSports games, too, like CS: GO, League of Legends, and Dota 2. It accepts UPI, Netbanking, Neteller, Skrill, and many more.

Parimatch

Parimatch is one of the best betting sites for cricket betting, but this is now also a good place to bet on the biggest selection of eSports in India. You can bet on Parimatch with deposit methods like UPI, Paytm, NetBanking, and more.

Another popular betting app and site is MelBet, but aside from sports, you can also find odds on eSports games here, like Dota 2, CS: GO, FIFA, Valorant, and League of Legends. You can play and bet on MelBet with Paytm, bank transfer, AstroPay, and more.
