The Best Sims 4 Expansion, Game, and Stuff Packs (2020 Update)

Let’s face it, The Sims 4 is undoubtedly one of the best simulation games on the market, but after long hours stuck doing the same old tasks, things can get a little tedious. If you’ve been taking advantage of quarantine by playing games you’d otherwise have no time to play, chances are you’ve spent far too many hours playing The Sims 4 base game.

If this is the case, why not make the most of being at home with some Sims 4 Expansion Packs? Not only do they expand the game, but they also add some more items for you and your Sims to have fun with. Whether that’s with a brand-new pet to chase around the garden or a sweet new kitchen to cook those impeccable grilled cheese sandwiches, The Sims 4 packs truly have it all.

Sims 4 Cover Art

If you’re overwhelmed by the sheer number of packs available to download, worry not! We’ve done all of the hard work for you by compiling a list of some of our favourite Sim 4 Expansion Packs, Game Packs and Stuff Packs designed to drastically improve gameplay.

The Best Sims 4 Expansion Packs

As the name implies, Expansion Packs are used to expand the game and improve the way of living for your Sims. Considering they offer the most features, Expansion Packs are the most expensive of the three, starting at around $40 each. With that being said, if you’re looking to improve your overall experience in the game while grabbing some exclusive Create a Sim and Build Mode items, then we can’t recommend these Expansion Packs enough.

#1 Cats and Dogs

Release Date: 10th November 2017

We can probably all agree that no home is complete without a cat or a dog, even a virtual one. Which is why we simply had to start off this list with a classic pack that we think you’ll all enjoy. The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs fittingly adds a range of customizable pets to your home, improving the life of your Sims for the better.

Sim 4 Cats and Dogs Expansion

It goes without saying that this Expansion Pack is filled with features that you truly don’t want to miss out on.

I mean, what other pack allows you to recreate your in-real-life pet or create your very own dream companion in The Sims 4? In addition to changing the overall look of your pet, you will also be able to change the character traits as you would with a Sim.

What’s more, you can dress your pets up in some of the weird and wonderful outfits that come with the pack. While you won’t be able to control your animals as you could in the previous version of Pets, you can still interact with your four-legged friends in many ways.

If you don’t want your pets lazing around the house all day, you can train them to learn some pretty sweet tricks and direct them through obstacle courses to improve their skills. Along with the ability to create and raise your own crazy-looking animals, you have the option to build your very own veterinary clinic, hire staff and even work there for yourself with the newly included profession.

#2 Seasons

Release Date: 22nd June 2018

If you don’t already have Seasons installed, it should be added to your list of Expansion Packs immediately. Not only does it allow you to keep track of time as you spend hours torturing your Sims, but it also adds seasonal activities to keep your virtual family entertained throughout the year.

Having said that, you should take into account the fact that the addition of weather changes not only the overall look of the world but also the emotions of your Sims. As luck would have it, Seasons adds some new clothing items that you can use to prevent your Sims from becoming miserable in the cold. What better way to prepare your Sims for the winter than with an ugly cardigan that looks like it was knitted by your favourite grandmother?

Naturally, winter isn’t the only season, so you’ll have to prepare for the weather by dressing your Sims appropriately. After all, no one wants their Sims passing out from heat exhaustion after a monster heatwave. As with the real world, the Seasons Expansion Pack includes real-world holidays that can be marked on the calendar for your Sims to look forward to.

Watch as your Sims count the days until they can write love letters on Love Day and receive presents from Father Winter on Christmas Eve. You can even decorate your home using the added Build Mode items to get your Sims in the holiday spirit. In addition to the traditional holidays, you can create your very own custom holiday for your Sims to celebrate.

#3 Discover University

Release Date: 15th November 2019

Discover University is one of the most recent Sims 4 Expansion Packs that many dedicated fans have been hoping for since the game was first released. Upon installing this pack, your Sims can enroll in either the University of Britechester or the modern Foxbury Institute and take up classes that pique their interests.

Of course, they won’t just be able to take part in a few classes, cycle back to their parents’ house and play video games all night—unless their goal is to fail. If you plan on making your Sims successful, they must attend lectures and work on term papers as every good student should. Consequently, Discover University adds another challenging layer to the Sims 4 that the base game seems to be lacking.

By all means, university isn’t all work and no play, that would simply make Jack a dull boy. Instead, university gives your Sims the opportunity to meet new classmates, join school organizations like art clubs or take part in fun activities such as soccer and juice pong. To make a good first impression, why not dress your Sims in the new Create-a-Sim items that best suit their personality?

As to be expected, your Sims also have the option to either live off-campus, in shared housing or in a dorm room depending on what you prefer. If you choose to let your Sims live in a dorm, you can spice things up using the added dorm décor to make living away from home a little less intimidating.

#4 Island Living

Release Date: 21st June 2019

Sometimes, even your Sims deserve a break from the real world, which is exactly why we have included the Island Living Expansion Pack to our list. With this pack, your Sims can escape reality and head straight to the tropical islands of Sulani to start a new life. I mean, what’s better than stunning beaches, fresh blue water, and a clear blue sky? How about mermaids?Sims 4 Island Living Expansion Pack

That’s right, if you’re familiar with mermaids from the Sims 3, then you may be glad to know that they return in this must-have Expansion Pack for The Sims 4. Not only can you spot mermaids in the wild and turn into one using magic kelp, but you can also create one for yourself. Having said that, Island Living isn’t all about mermaids.

Across the three stunning islands, your Sims can appreciate the picturesque landscapes, chat with the local people of Sulani or start a career as a Conservationist to help save the environment. After a long day cleaning up beaches, feel free to let your Sims swim around the ocean, make a sandcastle or sunbathe by the clear water before heading to bed.

By using the newly added Create-a-Sim items, you can prepare your Sims for water activities such as swimming and snorkeling, just make sure that their outfit is suitable for the hot weather. At the end of the day, nobody wants a sunburnt Sim.

If you prefer to let your Sims live freely by doing casual work and fishing for their next meal, feel free to do so. After all, on these islands, anything is possible.

#5 City Living

Release Date: 1st October 2016

If your Sims have been living in the same old neighborhood for far too long, then it may be time for a change of scenery. With the City Living Expansion Pack, your Sims will be able to leave behind their monotonous, suburban life and jump right into the lively city of San Myshuno. To meet the needs of every Sim in town, the diverse city is broken up into four main districts known as the Arts Quarter, Fashion District, Spice Market and Uptown.

Every single one of these neighborhoods is filled with unique activities to keep your Sims entertained for hours on end. What better way to end a rough day than with some basketball followed by a cocktail on a classy rooftop bar?

Since you won’t be able to build your own apartment complex as you would in SimCity, this Expansion Pack forces you to be creative by using the limited space available to you. Now, I don’t know about you, but there’s something so satisfying about transforming a shabby old apartment into a cosy abode for your Sims to live in. Given that your Sims will be living so close to their neighbors, there are many NPC Sims for your virtual family to meet.

As you may have experienced in the real world, some of your neighbors will be friendly, while others will certainly keep you up at night with their blaring music and lord only knows what else. Some will even wander right into your apartment as if it were their own, so we highly recommend locking your front door to keep those creepy neighbors away.

#6 Get Together

Release Date: 8th December 2015

We can probably all agree that one of the most amusing things about the game is watching as your Sims socialize with each other in Simlish. Although we fully don’t understand the fictional language, it’s entertaining to watch as they blabber on about god knows what to the neighbor they met just 5-minutes ago. Which is exactly why we simply couldn’t leave the Get Together Expansion Pack off our list.

Sims 4 Get Together Expansion Pack Cover Art

As you would expect, this pack essentially adds a club system to the game that allows your Sims to meet with like-minded individuals and unlock perks including social boosts. Gone are the days where random guests come over once in a blue moon for a dull party—with this pack, you can form clubs and expand your social circle for the better.

Whether you prefer to join a ready-made club or create your own group dedicated to an in-game activity, the Get Together expansion is perfect for getting your Sims out of their comfort zone. Once you have created your very own club, you can take part in group activities such as dancing at a nightclub to improve your dancing skills or competing with other Sims in a game of darts.

At the same time, there’s a new world to be discovered thanks to the addition of Windenburg, a picturesque neighbourhood just asking to be explored. It’s truly one of the most stunning locations in the game that you simply don’t want to miss out on seeing.

#7 Get Famous

Release Date: 16th November 2018

If you want your Sims to have a luxurious lifestyle like one of your favourite celebs, then you’re going to need the Get Famous Expansion. With this pack, you’ll be able to turn your Sims into the next Kim K. as they embark on a brand-new career path, build a loyal fanbase, and become the next best influencer. As the player, you decide how your Sims achieve fame and how they influence the other NPC Sims in the world around them.

Sims 4 Get Famous Expansion Pack Cover Art

As your Sims achieve milestones such as landing a breakthrough role in the newest blockbuster movie, they will build their celebrity level with fame points. To further improve their chances of being recognized, we suggest dressing your Sims in the glamorous new outfits that come with this Expansion Pack.

As you become more famous, you’ll not only want to look the part on set, but you’ll also want to come back to a swanky new mansion fit for a celebrity. How does gold-plated furniture sound? Since the release of Get Famous, developers have added some interesting new careers such as a social media career and acting.

With the most recently added acting career, your Sims can become the next Leonardo DiCaprio as they rise to fame. As you may have suspected, the celebrity lifestyle isn’t for everyone and it definitely comes with a silver lining. Once your Sims become more famous, they will inevitably gain more attention, which can make life extremely unpredictable. The question is: Are you up for the challenge?

The Best Sims 4 Game Packs

If you’re looking for a medium-sized pack that will inevitably enhance gameplay, then a Game Pack may just be what you’re looking for. As with an Expansion Pack, Game Packs add new experiences to the game while offering a whole host of new Create a Sim and Build Mode items for you to have fun with.

Sims 4 Parenthood Scene

Even though they are considerably smaller than an Expansion Pack, Game Packs offer a decent amount of content priced at a very reasonable $20.

#1 Jungle Adventure

Release Date: 27th February 2018

Jungle Adventure is the second pack on our list that allows you to escape reality by heading to a unique location away from home. If your Sims are extremely adventurous and ready to take on a range of challenges as they explore the wilderness, then pack their bags and send them straight to Selvadorada.

Sims 4 Jungle Adventure

In this Latin American-inspired region, your Sims can make friends with the local people, taste some delicious traditional food and practice native customs. You can even dress your Sims up in the local style using the newly added colorful clothing. If color isn’t their thing, you can dress them in some durable clothing suitable for the outdoor lifestyle.

Prior to sending your Sims on a trek through the vast jungle, you should head to the local shops to purchase all of the gear necessary for survival. Once prepared, allow your Sims to feel like Indiana Jones as they discover hidden temples and uncover ancient artifacts that they can take home.

But before you get your hopes up, know that not everything you find will be genuine, so you’ll have to excavate and examine the artifacts at the archeology table. Once your Sims have collected all of the artifacts, they will eventually be able to create a complete relic that can be both a curse and a blessing.

#2 Parenthood

Release Date: 30th May 2017

We can probably all agree that with the Sims 4 base game, creating and raising a family can become fairly monotonous, especially in the long run. As a result, many users, including myself, tend to get bored with families and even stop socializing with their child Sims after a few days. If you aspire to create the perfect virtual family that you can actually interact with, then you’re going to need the Parenthood Game Pack.

This expansion changes the whole parent-child dynamic for the better by allowing you to bond with your toddlers, kids, and teens through a range of fun activities. Whether that’s helping your children with school projects or volunteering at a Bake Sale, your in-game decisions will shape how your virtual children turn out as you guide them into adulthood.

By participating in activities, your Sims will level up their parenting skills, shaping the lives of their children and satisfying their needs. As your toddlers grow into moody teenagers, your Sims will also gain abilities through experience as they give life advice, praise and discipline their kids. Unlike the base game, your Sims won’t just suffer through pregnancy before popping out a child they don’t seem to care about.

Instead, children mean more to you and your adult Sims with the Parenthood Game Pack. On the topic of pregnancy, if you don’t fancy waiting for your Sims to give birth, why not skip the whole process and jump straight into labor? To learn how to do this, we highly recommend checking out our guide to the best Sims 4 cheats.

#3 Vampires

Release Date:24th January 2017

As with the other expansions on our list, Vampires is an exciting Game Pack that adds a tonne of new content to the already-fun base game. That’s right, mermaids aren’t the only mythical beings in The Sims 4. If you’ve been following the franchise since the beginning, then you may know that Vampires have been around since The Sims: Makin’ Magic. At first, they didn’t really play a huge role in the game.

Sims 4 Vampires Cover Art

While your Sims could originally take on the appearance of a bloodsucker, they couldn’t actually become a vampire themselves. They were merely cosmetic up until The Sims 2: Nightlife where Sims could turn into a vampire after being bitten in the neck. Who would have thought?

With this Sims 4 Game Pack, you no longer have to go downtown looking for a pale-skinned vamp before encouraging them to bite you. Instead, you instantly have the option to make your very own vampire in the Create a Sim screen. As you edit your vampire Sims, you can choose everything from their sharp fangs to their glowing eyes and even customize a unique Dark Form that is revealed when they do any vampire actions.

Once you have created your own vampire, you can begin your journey as a bloodsucker, unlocking powerful abilities as you level up and grow stronger. As your vampire Sims become more powerful, they will inevitably increase their fighting skills so that they can overcome other vampires in the game.

It goes without saying that if you’re into supernatural stuff, then you’re definitely going to have fun with the Vampires Game Pack.

#4 Strangerville

Release Date: 26th February 2019

When the next Game Pack on our list was released at the beginning of last year, I truly wasn’t quite sure what to think about it. Turns out, it’s actually quite addictive. To sum it up, I’d say that Strangerville is an expansion that is genuinely stranger than Stranger Things. Going into detail, the Strangerville expansion allows you to begin an investigation and solve a mystery in the desert town fittingly known as Strangerville.

In the town, your Sims will experience bizarre weather, hazardous plants and the very weird townspeople of Strangerville. To follow the story, you’ll have to choose the Strangerville Mystery aspiration. After that, your main job is to put your mystery-solving cap on and gear your Sims up with the new clothing items fit for the desert.

As to be expected, nothing is as it seems in the Area 51-inspired town, so you’re going to need to keep your eye on the strange people around you. If you’re desperate to uncover the secrets of Strangerville, then you’ll have to check out the Local Bar where Military Personnel hang out or at the Local Library and Curio Shop where Scientists pass the time. With this Game Pack, you truly feel like the clumsy Inspector Gadget.

Even though the story is admittedly fairly short—something that many fans have complained about—it’s worth it for the title and rewards you receive after completing the narrative. What better way to celebrate your new title of “Hero of Strangerville” than with some cupcakes and fan mail? I’d say, nothing is better than that!

The Best Sims 4 Stuff Packs

As you may have guessed, The Sims 4 Stuff Packs are essentially small add-ons designed to improve the lives of your Sims for the better. They do this by adding some brand-new clothing items and swanky new objects for them to have fun with in their strange, virtual lives. Considering Stuff Packs are much smaller than Expansion Packs and Game Packs, they are generally much cheaper at around $10 each.

Sims 4 Living Stuff Pack

Despite the fact that they are smaller packs, they can change the game drastically, improving not only the way you play but how your Sims live.

#1 Cool Kitchen Stuff

Release Date: 11th August 2015

Much like many of you dedicated fans out there, when it comes to The Sims 4, I tend to spend far too many hours building the perfect house for my favourite Sims to reside in. Aside from the bedroom, I specifically have fun working on the kitchen, a place where my Sims spend most of their day devouring mediocre mac and cheese dishes before leaving their plates to rot.

The thing is, we can likely all agree that the base game simply doesn’t feature a diverse range of unique building and decorative items, which is where Stuff Packs come into play. As the name suggests, the Cool Kitchen Pack is fantastic for those of you who want a range of new Build Mode Items that you can use to build and decorate your dream kitchen.

Everything from the sleek, stainless steel knife rack to the brand-new wooden cabinets can really make a simple house feel like a home. Having said that, the ice cream maker is what truly makes this Stuff Pack so charming. Once you place the ice cream maker in your kitchen, you will notice that there are more than 30 different ice cream flavours to unlock.

What’s more, each and every ice cream flavour will affect your Sims in a different way. Some flavours will make them Flirty, while others will make them breathe fire like a dragon. Your Sims will also have a favourite flavour of ice cream depending on their traits, so be sure to use their favourite toppings and garnishes as you whip up a cone.

#2 Movie Hangout Stuff

Release Date: 12th January 2016

When I first discovered the Movie Hangout Stuff Pack, I honestly didn’t think that the word “hippie” was going to cross my mind. As a matter of fact, “Boho Stuff” or even “Hippie Stuff” would have been a more suitable name for this pack. Having said that, it certainly doesn’t lack items that you can use to create your very own home or even backyard cinema.

Naturally, you can’t have a home cinema without an extensive collection of your favorite movies, which is why the Movie Hangout Pack adds 10 films that you can use on any TV in the game. If you don’t fancy using just any old television, then you can use one of two of the projectors that come with this pack to host your very own movie night.

Of course, no film night would be complete without some sweet and salty snacks, which is why this pack conveniently adds a popcorn machine as seen in The Sims: Makin’ Magic and The Sims 3. Before the party begins, Sims can use the handy Sugar Kane Popcorn Popper to prepare four types of popcorn that vary in price: Buttered Popcorn (§10), Cheddar Popcorn (§20), Kettle Corn (§15) and Caramel Corn (§25).

As they consume popcorn by the handful, your Sims can have a range of different reactions depending on the film they are watching. As an example: if your Sims are watching a horror movie, they can get scared, flinch and cause the popcorn to fall out of the bowl. It genuinely makes watching your Sims watch their favourite movie just that bit more entertaining.

#3 Backyard Stuff

Release Date: 19th July 2016

If you plan on inviting your virtual friends over for a backyard movie night, then it might be time to spruce up your boring old garden with some new and exciting items. Fortunately for you, you can do just that so long as you own the Backyard Stuff Pack. As well as some adorable furniture, vivid potted plants, and brightly colored décor, this pack adds some new water slides for you and your neighbors to have fun with.

If you want your favourite Sims to be the life of the party, you can make them perform a range of tricks as nearby viewers cheer them on. Or, you can let them enjoy the slide alone as they speed down it in the middle of the night.

But watch out: if their skill level is too low, they may embarrass themselves by face-planting in front of their friends. With that being said, once their skill level is high enough, they will be able to pull off tricks like a boss.

To spruce things up, why not add some soap to your water slide? After a fun day in your newly designed backyard, allow your Sims to cool down with a fresh cup of lemonade as they sit in the shade. But don’t forget to dress your Sims up in the casual new clothing items that come with Backyard Stuff. As you would assume, you can also use this pack to spruce up your front yard, which will certainly make your home much more inviting.

#4 Tiny Living

Release Date: 21st January 2020

When EA first announced the Tiny Living pack, many dedicated fans were torn. Some were thrilled that they could finally create their own dream tiny home for one, others were less enthusiastic. As someone who prefers to refine a small building before decorating it with a limited number of items, I personally find the Tiny Living pack very appealing.

As you would expect, the Build and Buy items that come with this pack are small, occupying only 1-2 grids per item. In fact, most of them don’t even use up all of the space in those few squares, making them very suitable for a tiny home made for one. Even though most of the items appear to be made for a living area, you will most certainly find items fit for a minimalistic bedroom.

When it comes to the lot you’ll be building on, Tiny Home Residential lot types are considerably smaller compared to the home lots in the base game. The smallest lot known as a Micro Home starts out at around 4-32 tiles, a Tiny Home at 33-64 tiles and a Small home at 65-100. Due to the fact that this Stuff Pack features miniature plots of land, we advise that you only use this pack if you plan on creating a home for a single Sim.

Otherwise, you and your virtual husband will be sleeping in a bed that they can’t even get out of. As a consequence of the small lots, the Tiny Home Stuff pack adds another challenging layer to The Sims 4 that the base game is simply lacking. Do you have what it takes to build a comfortable home with less than 100 tiles?

Since there are so many packs available for The Sims 4, choosing the right one for you can be a time-consuming task. As this is the case, we hope that our guide has helped you to choose the best Sims 4 Expansion Pack, Game Pack or Stuff Pack to improve your experience with the game. Not only that, but to improve the way your Sims live in their virtual paradise.

Want to further improve your experience with the game without spending a dime? Then we highly recommend taking a peek at our guide to the best Sims 4 mods. By using one of the 20+ modifications on our list, you’ll be able to improve your in-game experience for the better.
