While all men are created equal, graphics cards are not. Even if they all wear the same name or use the same GPU.

For instance, what you can expect from all cards with an NVidia GTX 1070 TI GPU is NVidia’s Pascal architecture, NVIDIA Ansel support, OpenGL 4.6 support, 2432 CUDA Cores and unlike the famous GeForce GTX 1050 TI, VR readiness.

However, not all cards have the same heat dispersion. Some cards are factory overclocked, while others are just optimized for overclocking. In this guide, we will discuss which manufacturer has the best implementation of the GTX 1070 Ti GPU and explore what makes these cards so different.

MSI GeForce GTX 1070 TI Review

MSI’s prices can be so unforgiving. However, it’s important to remember that most of MSI’s components are made of high-grade material. MSI’s GeForce GTX 1070 Ti is a fine example of this.

The capacitors, switches, resistors, chips, and heat sink are made from MIL-STD-810G certified materials. The card is built with (what was at the time) the latest SFC components. The card uses MSI’s proprietary highly conductive polymerized and solid capacitors. These have been shown to have 8-times the life span of normal capacitors.

The first thing you’ll notice when looking at the MSI GeForce GTX 1070 TI Titanium is the giant dual fans. The entire graphics card is designed to look dragon-like to match MSI’s emblem. The fans really finish the look off.

However, there is a reason why the fans look so mean and dangerous. They utilize a double fan blade design and they are placed close together. It is a hybrid between the traditional fan blade design, which maximizes downward airflow, and dispersion fan blade design, which sweeps more air into the heat sink.

They work together to deliver quiet and effective cooling to the GPU and board. Just like with most modern cooling fans, they rotate on a set of double ball bearings.

Nevertheless, the fans are just a part of MSI’s very impressive Twin Frozr VI cooling system. The heat sink utilizes what MSI calls Airflow Control Technology, which brings advanced aerodynamics to the card.

It’s made in such a way that the heat sink catches more airflow by using the deflectors on the fins to direct more air into the heat pipes. The heat pipes are made from sintered copper, which is known to provide some of the best conductivity. Nothing seems to be wasted when it comes to MSI’s Twin Frozr VI design. Even the squared shape of the pipes has a raison d’etre. It’s to maximize the amount of heat received from the face of the baseplate.

The base plate is made of nickel-plated anti-oxidized copper, which is not only durable but perfect for heat dissipation. Of course, sitting sandwiched between the chip and the baseplate is MSI’s proprietary compound X. One of the most effective cooling pastes on the market.

The graphics card can handle The Witcher 3 at max settings at a 2K resolution without dropping frame rates at 60 FPS. Most 1070 TI graphics card should be able to do this. However, the MSI GTX 1070 TI can do it while keeping temperatures just below 61 °C.

Again, this makes it perfect for overclocking with MSI’s Afterburner. You can also customize the LED lighting patterns on the graphics using Afterburner.

Overall, the MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Ti is an extraordinary looking card. It would really suit a high-quality open-air case or one with some transparent paneling. It would be a shame to hide it. It also delivers some amazing performances. If you overclock it, you can expect to see benchmarks higher than the GTX 1080 TI.

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 TI Gaming 8G Review

It’s really depressing how expensive this graphics card is. If you look at the fact that it still delivers flawless 2K graphics at 60 FPS, it makes sense. Newer games can still be run on high and of course, you can easily squeeze a performance boost by overclocking it.

Gigabyte’s iteration of the GTX 1070 TI is one of the most overclock-friendly versions of the card. The cooler comes with three fans. The entire cooling system is known as WINDFORCE 3X. You can obviously see why.

It’s a mix of brute force cooling and clever design concepts. All three fans are identical and each one is adorned with Gigabyte’s unique fan design. Each fan blade is grooved in such a way that it is reminiscent of Ethiopian scarification.

The fans use this grooved design in conjunction with the triangle fan edges to increase airflow. Connecting the heat sink to the GPU are two solid copper composite heat-pipes who have direct contact with the GPU.

The pipes are designed to have as much contact with the GPU as possible. There is also a base plate covering the card’s VRAM modules to ensure that they are getting some shade as well. As you may have guessed by now, running the graphics card will consume a lot of power, so a 500W PSU will be a necessity.

If you find that you need to upgrade yours, check out our guide on the best power supplies for gaming. Nonetheless, the Gigabyte GTX 1070 TI tries its best to be as energy-efficient as possible by employing some semi-passive cooling.

The GPU fans will remain off when it is necessary. The card comes with LED indicators to make it easy for you to see the status of the fans.

Unfortunately, these aren’t as customizable as the LED’s on the side of the graphics card. Nevertheless, you have five customization options:

  1. Cycling: Cycles through all available colors
  2. Consistent: Displays a user-specified colored light continuously
  3. Flash: Flashes a user-specified colored light in short intervals
  4. Double/Dual Flash: Flashes a user-specified colored light in quick succession
  5. Breathing: Slowly flashes a user-specified colored light

To secure all its components and add some stability, Gigabyte has added a black metal plate to the bottom of the graphics card. Which is great, especially if you plan to use the card with an external dock.

Overall, it might still be a little expensive, but no one who buys this card is being robbed. If you look at the components and how expertly crafted the card is, you’ll see that it’s well worth the price of admission.

EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 TI SC Review

EVGA takes what is already a monster of a GPU and amps it up even further. Under load, this thing is a real cool customer. This can be attributed to EVGA ACX 3.0 cooling in the card. This is EVGA’s latest video card cooling technology.

A more modernized motor with improved magnets and more fan blades means quieter cooling. This also creates greater air pressure, which means the fans do not have to work as hard to keep your GPU cooled.

This means less noise and increased fan life span. The fans are built with eleven swept blades. What makes them rotate is a set of double ball bearings and a three-phase low power motor.

It’s important that cooling is as efficient as possible. Especially if you consider how much power this thing uses. You’ll need a 500W PSU to feed this monster. You can get away with a less powerful PSU but not if you’re planning to overclock.

Much like other card manufacturers these days, EVGA makes it easier for you to overclock the card safely by providing you with software to do it. In this case, it’s EVGA’s Precision XOC software. It’s a really useful tool.

It gives you the ability to automatically scan and overclock your card. It’s intuitive and easy to use. You can also tweak your graphics card in some very subtle ways. Along with the drivers, EVGA Precision XOC comes in a DVD disk that is packaged with the graphics card.

That’s not the only bonus you’ll receive with the card. In addition to the necessary components and connectors, you’ll also find an installation guide, a gaming poster, an EVGA case badge, and an EVGA sticker.

Overall, EVGA’s implementation of the GTX 1070 TI GPU is one of the best. It is a bit pricey, but not too pricey. At the end of the day, it is well worth the price. It’s a good card, that could possibly last for six or more years.

ASUS GF GTX 1070 TI Review

I’m a bit confused as to why the cooling system or graphics card is named Cerberus, considering that it only comes with two fans. Maybe it’s because Cerberus guarded the entrance of Hades or maybe it’s because it fits the aesthetic of ASUS’s other Cerberus products. Marketing gimmicks aside, the build quality of this card is outstanding.

Just like the Gigabyte GTX 1070 TI, ASUS’s implementation also has a black metal backplate protecting all the card’s most sensitive components and keeping it stable.

The difference is ASUS’s backplate is decorated with the Cerberus symbol, while Gigabyte is plain. This may not mean much to you, considering that you’ll see very little of the backplate (depending on your PC’s build) but it’s a very nice touch.

ASUS claims that through rigorous testing, they have found the card to last 15 times longer than industry standards. This means you can put the card under heavy stress for hours without worrying about it crashing or tapping out too soon.

This perfect for pro-gamers planning on long weekend practice sessions. To start you off on your gaming journey, the card comes bundled with Fortnite, as well as drivers and GPU Tweak II. This card was practically built to be overclocked and GPU Tweak II is ASUS’s way of making it easy for you.

Unfortunately, you only get a 1-year license with the software. Until the software expires you can really test the cooling unit on this card and push it to its limits.

The dual fans seem extremely light but not flimsy. Since nearly all manufacturers use patented fan blades for their cooling systems, you can expect the same from ASUS. Their fan bald design doesn’t look as mean or innovative as MSI’s but it works just as well – maybe even better.

Each fan is dustproof and generates 105% more static air pressure than normal fan blades. With all this airflow and pressure generated, you would expect them to be loud but they’re surprisingly not. Maybe that is why they’re so lightweight.

The fans’ design isn’t the only reason why cooling is so quiet on the ASUS Cerberus GTX 1070 TI. It uses ASUS 0dB technology when the GPU isn’t under stress and temperature levels remain under 55 °C. Not only does this save power but it also ensures that your bearings last longer.

What I like most about this card is that it includes two HDMI ports, instead of one like most cards with the same GPU. One HDMI port for your VR headsets and the other for your TV. I find this to be really convenient.

Overall, this video card is a clear example as to why the GTX 1070 TI remains one of the best GPUs for gaming. It’s one of the most compact cards in terms of length but because of the size of the heatsink, you’ll find that it nearly takes up three slots on your computer. Make sure you have enough space and a decent enough power supply unit to keep it running along with all the other components in your PC.

EVGA GTX 1070 TI Blower Review

Nvidia released the GTX 1070 TI on the 2nd of November 2017. At the time of its release, it was a high-end graphics card. In fact, it was the second-fastest Pascal-based card. Only slightly slower than the NVidia GeForce GTX 1080 TI.

Sometimes, it’s better to wait for high-end graphic card prices to drop a bit, but you’re in danger of buying a card that may be obsolete in a year’s time. What was high-end three years ago is now mid-range.

However, this is no problem for gamers trying to catch up with past games. The advantage here is that you’ll have access to the most stable drivers and you’ll find that even newer games are still optimized for older graphics cards. This is particularly useful when for Linux gamers.

It can be said that the RTX series has knocked the GTX 1070 TI down into mid-range territory. Yet, no one could accuse EVGA’s GTX 1070 TI Blower edition as being a budget graphics card for gaming. Although, it’s slightly cheaper than most cards with the same GPU.

The GTX 1070 TI Blower edition is basically EVGA’s founder edition. It’s basically a reference card with a single fan and exhaust. As with most reference cards, it will not outperform a triple or dual-fan cooling setup but it’s extremely quiet.

I really like the way this graphics card looks. The simple black and grey tones and the very simple symmetrical rectangular design speaks to me for some reason. It’s neat, clean and pragmatic looking. It has simple white LED lighting for its logo.

On average, under heavy stress during overclocking, the card will give off temperatures at around 65°C. Sometimes the card can touch temperatures of 70°C. You’ll need to pay careful attention when you’re overclocking it.

It can do everything than most cards with the same GPU can. It’s VR-ready, has Microsoft DirectX 12 support, has OpenGL 4.6 support, etc.

You may find that this implementation of the GTX 1070 TI is the perfect card if you find yourself short on a few dollars. It’s even better for gamers who aren’t planning to overclock it or who plan on replacing the entire cooler in the future.

Best GeForce GTX 1070 TI Buying Guide

Maybe you’ve found our picks to be disappointing. Maybe you’d rather venture out and find a better version of the GTX 1070 TI. Whatever the reason, this short buying guide will bring you closer to the graphics card of your dreams. If you are planning to buy a used graphics card then this section should be all the more important for you.

Reference vs. Non-Reference Card: What’s the Difference?

You may have encountered the phrase ‘reference card’ while shopping for a graphics card. But what is it? GPU manufacturers such as NVidia and AMD make their own graphics cards too, mostly in the form of Founders Editions. A reference card is built using the design of these GPU manufacturers as…reference.

Reference cards traditionally come with single blower cooling units. The advantage of reference cards is that they’re slightly cheaper and they usually expel heat out of your case instead of into surrounding components.

gtx 1070 specs

However, they still don’t provide as efficient cooling as custom coolers do. Custom graphic cards also tend to be quieter than reference cards. Then tend to be more conducive to overclocking than reference cards are.

When choosing between reference and non-reference cards, make sure you understand your needs and your resources.

Power Consumption: Do You Have the Right PSU

The biggest mistake gamers make in overexcitement while purchasing a brand new graphics card is not checking if they have the right power supply. In terms of power to performance, the GTX 1070 Ti is one of the most energy-efficient GPUs out there.

Generally, a GTX 1070 Ti-based card will consume anywhere from 100 to 180 watts and thus it is advised that you have a 500W power supply to feed it as well as the other components on your computer.

If you are running two GTX 1070 Ti’s in tandem using SLI technology, then you need to ensure you have a 750-Watt power supply.

The Right Monitor: Refresh Rates and Resolutions

While it’s possible to run a GTX 1070 Ti on an HD-ready display or TV, it feels like a bit of a waste. Especially if you consider that the maximum digital resolution of the card is 7680×4320. That is an 8K resolution.

GTX 1070 TI stacked

In addition to this, the GTX 1070 Ti can multi-project on up to four different displays. Another problem you may encounter while running this card on weaker monitors is screen tearing and lagging. If your monitor doesn’t have the right amount of refresh rates to handle your graphics card, then this could really have a negative impact on your enjoyment as well as your gaming.

To truly get the best out of your graphics card you’ll need a really good monitor that’s optimized for gaming. If you don’t have one or at least aren’t planning to get one, then maybe you’ll be better off looking for less powerful and cheaper graphics cards.

Best GeForce GTX 1070 TI FAQ

What is the difference between a GTX 1070 and 1070 TI?

The GTX 1070 TI simply has more CUDA cores than the GTX 1070. CUDA cores are typically parallel processors built to compute large blocks of data. These give the card the ability to compile code. This means developers can send raw code directly to the card instead of the built assembly code. So code can essentially be compiled and processed at run-time or near run-time. The more CUDA cores, the larger the block of data process-able.

Does the 1070 TI support SLI?

Yes, the GTX 1070 TI does support SLI. You can link two GTX 1070 Ti to outperform or perform as well as newer graphics cards.

Does GTX 1070 Ti support 4k?

The GTX 1080 can deliver smooth 4K performances, which means that the 1070 TI should be able to do that too since the 1070 TI is virtually a scaled-down version of the GTX 1080. The GTX 1070 TI can deliver 4K gaming performance. However, you’ll need to tweak it a bit to get it working smoothly.

What does the TI mean in GTX?

Ti or TI refers to the chemical element, Titanium. In most cases, it denotes that it’s an upscaled version of the original card. For instance, the GTX 1070 Ti has superior performance to the GTX1070.

Final Thoughts

What makes the GTX 1070 TI so special is how future proof it is. And that’s why it’s still worth the purchase despite its age. It can still take an average computer and turn it into a monster gaming PC. In this guide, we explored some of the best implementations of the NVidia GTX 1070 Ti GPU. We hope you can walk away from this article, fully sure of which manufacturer you would like to purchase your future graphics card from.
