If you want to boost your framerate and reduce latency once and for all, start using the best Fortnite settings today.
A multiplatform game like Fortnite is well optimized, and with Epics own game engine, Unreal Engine 4, you’ll receive great visual results with the default settings. Despite this fact, there are still numerous things you can tinker with to massively boost the performance.
Here at Game Gavel, we have compiled a list of suggested settings for Fortnite on the PC, including some of the settings the pro players use. After all, they must be doing something right! So, let’s climb out of the bus and jump into our Fortnite settings guide.

Regardless of what game you wish to play, you must look into the system requirements to ensure you can run the game in the first place. Here are the system requirements for Fortnite on the PC, including recommended and minimum specs. These settings will help your game run better, but they won’t teach you how to play Fortnite by default. We recommend checking our other guides if you need these pro tips.

How to Increase FPS in Fortnite
Now, we are aware that Fortnite is one of the most popular games of our time, yet it’s important to consider beginners who aren’t aware of how to change the settings.
- Go to the lobby
- Click on the (Durrr) hamburger icon in the top right corner of your screen
- Click on the gear icon from the dropdown menu
- Select video settings
What’s the Best Mouse Sensitivity for Fortnite?
While some players prefer a high mouse sensitivity, others feel more comfortable with a lower sensitivity so that they feel in control, so it really depends on your own personal preferences.
That being said, it is best to ensure your sensitivity isn’t too high so that you can accurately aim at distant, moving enemies.
If you aim and miss because your sensitivity is too high, you’ll give away your position and likely die yourself. Though, if your sensitivity is too low, you won’t be able to move around swiftly, unless you’re a pro. Many professional Fortnite players have their sensitivity low in order to fine-tune their aim to climb the leaderboard faster. We will get into pro settings later on.
Recommended Mouse Sensitivity: 0.07
If you have a decent gaming mouse, it’ll likely have a DPI (Dot Per Inch) button. Refer this handy guide on how to change mouse sensitivity. This button enables you to change the speed of the mouse’s on-screen movements with a single button press, handy for sniper lovers.
A great way for us to compare the true sensitivity of other players, regardless of their settings, is Effective DPI. The eDPI is calculated in the following way:
eDPI = Sensitivity x DPI
If your mouse doesn’t have a DPI button, then it is important that you ditch the typical office mouse and opt for one with side buttons to ensure that you’re able to game with speed. Once you have the ability to bind building inputs to your mouse’s thumb buttons, you’ll be a fort building pro!
Speaking of the pros, one of the most popular mice for Fortnite is the Finalmouse Ultralight Pro, used by Tfue. To be more specific, the type of Finalmouse Tfue uses is the Air58 Ninja in Cherry Blossom Red. Here are the details on it:
- Weight: 58 grams
- Colors: Cherry Blossom Red and Cherry Blossom Blue
- Buttons: 2 side buttons and a DPI button on top
- Hand-painted and engraved haiku scroll
If you wish to purchase this mouse, note that it is in very high demand, so processing time may take longer than usual.
Scope sensitivity
If you’re into camping in forts with a scoped weapon, ensuring that you can accurately shoot your ant-sized enemies from a distance is vital. In most cases, accuracy is more important than speed, which is why we suggest lowering your scope sensitivity to ensure you don’t miss a shot.
Scope eDPI = (Sensitivity x DPI) x Scope Sensitivity
Tip: To change mouse settings simply follow the instructions above from steps 1-3, then select the “game” tab.
Display Resolution and Video Settings
There is a variety of different video and display settings in Fortnite, but what does each setting mean? Here is a breakdown of all of the video settings in order of how they appear in-game, alongside our recommended inputs for you to try out.
Window Mode
Windowed mode is convenient for those moments when you get destroyed mid-game and you want to express your anger to your pals outside of the game, such as on Discord. It’s not so great, however, when it comes to performance as the windowed mode is known to decrease FPS, so it’s best to stick to fullscreen mode.
To this, simply press ALT + Enter to toggle screen modes. Alternatively, you can do the following:
- Go to settings
- Select the Video tab
- Select Screen Mode for Windowed, Fullscreen, or Borderless Windowed.
Display Resolution
Although a lower resolution boosts FPS, boosting performance, it decreases graphics. Therefore, 1080p (1920×1080) is the minimum recommended display resolution for Fortnite.
Frame Rate Limit
As suggested by the title, this setting caps the game’s performance at your chosen frame rate limit. The best thing to do when it comes to frame rate limit is to play a few matches, note down the most common framerate you get, and then change the limit to that. You can, however, uncap this.
Quality
Changing the quality setting will mess up all of the above settings, so it’s best to avoid the quality setting.
3D Resolution
Changing the 3D resolution allows you to run a lower in-game resolution. We recommend that you keep this at 100%, otherwise, it’ll look like you’re gaming on a potato.
View Distance:
When you choose between the view distance options, you are choosing the point at which objects are rendered. If you want full vision, it is best to change this setting to epic for an epic performance.
Shadows:
Although you may think that this setting is only associated with aesthetics, shadows actually give you a bit of an advantage when it comes to Fortnite. If you’re hiding behind a wall and have shadows turned on, you’ll be able to see the shadows of approaching enemies. So, go ahead and set shadows to high.
Anti-Aliasing:
Setting anti-aliasing to high makes objects look a lot smoother. Depending on your PC, we suggest setting this to either medium or high.
Textures:
Textures allow for, you guessed it, a more detailed appearance. You’ll require a powerful graphics card to set textures to epic, yet if you don’t have the best graphics card for gaming, go for medium or high.
Effects:
Effects won’t make objects look better, however, it will give specific things in-game more detail, such as water and explosions. Because of this, it is one of the most taxing settings as frame rates are higher during explosions, therefore, go for a medium setting.
Post Processing:
When this is on a higher setting, objects seem a lot softer. If you’re after a sharper look, select the medium option, if not, go for low.
Vsync:
Turning Vsync on allows for full-frame rendering, although turning this on means your computer is working at full force, so it’s best to just keep Vsync off.
Motion Blur:
The only thing motion blur does is add a blur effect when moving, so it’s your choice whether to keep this off or on.
ShowFPS:
It is beneficial to show FPS when playing around with the settings as it allows you to see if what you have changed has affected overall performance.
What Settings Do Fortnite Pros Use?

Optimizing PC Settings for Fortnite
There is a range of things you can do outside of the game to improve how your game performs.
Task Manager:
Idle programmes can take up CPU and GPU power, slowing down your game. Simply opening up task manager to check how much power each application is taking up is an easy trick that anyone can do to stay out of the storm. Once you’ve checked task manager, close all of those applications that are hogging your CPU.
Nvidia Settings:
It is important to change GPU settings so that your game performs to the highest of standards. If you have an NVIDIA GPU, here’s what you can do after you’ve updated your AMD and Nvidia graphics drivers to improve performance:
- Right click on your desktop and select the Nvidia control panel
- Click on 3D settings
- Select “adjust image settings with preview” to change the quality and performance of games
- Click on “use my preference emphasizing”
- Drag the blue arrow further to the left towards “performance” – you can move it all the way left if you please
Discord:
If you like to run Discord in the background while playing Fortnite, optimize it to boost FPS in-game, here’s how:
- Open Discord
- Click on the cog icon to open up user settings
- Click on the appearance tab
- Untick hardware acceleration under advanced settings
You can even join the official Fortnite Discord to discuss the best keybinds for Fortnite with other players for more tips and tricks.
Clean Up Your Computer:
