Will There Soon Be an Influx of Hercules Games?

Thor: Love and Thunder recently hit screens and quickly became the sixth-highest grossing film of 2022. As usual with Marvel Cinematic Universe content, it set up some plotlines in the post-credits scenes, designed to tantalize fans for future content. Brett Goldstein appeared as Hercules this time, suggesting that the character will soon be introduced properly to the MCU. 

Brett Goldstein played the formidable hero, who has been a mainstay in Marvel Comics since his first appearance in the 1960s. With this introduction now out there, it could be that game developers start scrambling to make Hercules titles in anticipation of the character’s popularity in the years ahead. 

What Existing Hercules Games are There?

Hercules isn’t just a legendary Marvel Comics character. He’s also a well-known figure from Greek and Roman mythology. In ancient Greece, he was known as Heracles and was the son of Zeus. The stories surrounding Heracles mainly focus on the twelve labors that he had to carry out as a punishment for mistakenly slaying his own children when in a feverish hallucinogenic trance brought about by the vengeful Hera. Some of the most famous of these include defeating the Nemean lion and capturing Cerberus. 

With all the great feats of the incredible warrior, it’s surprising that he hasn’t been adapted into more games over the years. Still, there are a few titles that allow players to enjoy Hercules in digital form. For instance, he appeared as a boss in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 and was a playable character in Marvel: Avengers Alliance. In the slots market, there are various games based on Hercules as well. A contender for a studio that many would want to develop a Hercules game is CD Projekt Red. The Polish company made The Witcher series, which consisted of some of the most popular open-world games ever made. Another option would be Assassin’s Creed creator Ubisoft. One of the most recent titles in its flagship series, Odyssey, took players on a journey through ancient Greece. It was well received as well, and many would love the developer to make a return to those iconic times. 

With Hercules expected to play a major role in the MCU moving forward, it is highly likely that he will be represented more in games. The character could be perfect for a massive open-world offering that details his twelve labors.
