The next-gen video game consoles have only been released recently, but the demands for the visual upgrades they offer have been staggering. With Sony promising to have PlayStation 5 consoles ready by the start of 2021, it sure feels like every gamer out there can’t wait to get their hands on the new hardware. Though few PS5 games have been released so far, thanks to “Backward Compatibility” technology you can play your old PlayStation 4 games on the PS5. A fate Sony couldn’t achieve when they released the PS4 back in 2013.
Backward compatibility doesn’t just allow you to play these old games on the new consoles, but these games also receive nice upgrades. In terms of framerate and visuals without any dedicated patches. In lame man terms, they look and feel better when played on the PlayStation 5. Here are some of our best PS4 games to look forward to playing on the PS5.
God of War (2018)
The critically acclaimed 2018 game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony, is the eighth installment in the God of War series and the sequel to 2010’s God of War III. The game is regarded as one of the best games of the previous generation, and thanks to backward compatibility look and plays better on the PS5. The improvement in gameplay is even more evident when you play with the disc, not the digital version.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
A game based on timing, and surely not for the faint-hearted. This single-player ninja focused game created by FromSoftware benefits massively from increased framerate, looking like a remastered version of its previous generation game.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
If you haven’t traveled the Galaxy through the eyes of young Jedi Padawan, Cal Kestis, then you’re still in luck. This Star Wars game which takes place during the time of the “Great Jedi Purge” is one of the best in the franchise, and even plays better on the PS5. brings out the beauty of landscape and textures as you travel through the Galaxy.
Days Gone
Surviving in a zombie-filled post-apocalyptic open world has never been more exciting. With Days Gone able to hit 4K/60fps on the PlayStation 5, Bend Studios might have already made a PS5 game without knowing it. Days Gone puts you in control of Deacon St. John, a former Army veteran and bounty hunter who lives for the thrills of survival on the road rather than the wilderness of encampments.
Ghost of Tsushima
If you a fan of stealth games or perhaps you even fancy yourself a ninja, then Ghost of Tsushima is for you. The 2020 released action, an open-world game where you play as Jin Sakai, a samurai on a quest to protect the Island of Tsushima against the first Mongol Invasion of Japan. Ghost of Tsushima amassed success with outstanding visuals on PlayStation 4. The jump to 60fps on the PlayStation 5 console ensures it even looks and plays better.
Shadow of Tomb Raider
One of my personal favorites, Shadow of Tomb Raider already possesses amazing visuals on PS4. With the promise of 60fps on the PlayStation 5, you might want to buckle your seatbelt as you go on this epic adventure of South America with Lara Croft. Improved resolutions, more responsive gameplay surely a befitting rival to any cinematic experience.
Cyberpunk 2077
One of the most anticipated games of 2020 has hit the headlines for the wrong reasons after bad framerate and visuals on the PS4 & Xbox One. Originally created for the previous generation consoles, Cyberpunk 2077 is a joy to play on PS5. Though still a bit buggy, it’s improved visuals and lack of technical issues on the next-gen consoles makes it one to play.
Dishonored 2
The sequel to 2012’s Dishonored, this game lets you choose between playing as Empress Emily Baldwin; who was deposed by the witch Delilah Copperspoon or her father Corvo Attano as they attempt to reclaim the throne from Copperspoon. Despite being released in 2016, Dishonored 2 still receives visual upgrades on the PlayStation 5, reminding me of the countless hours I put in as I helped Emily reclaim the throne.
Tekken 7
Fans of fighting games will be pleased to learn that they weren’t left out of the PlayStation 5 improvements, with Tekken 7 also receiving upgrades. This Bandai Namco Entertainment arcade game was released four years back, and its hardcore fans would no doubt be excited to see characters like Devil Jin, Eddy Gordo, Heihachi Mishima, Yoshimitsu, to mention a few, look much better visually.
Control
This 2019 IGN Game of the year winner is one of the best Sci-fi games ever created. Revolving around Jesse Faden, a director at the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), a U.S government agency in charge of studying phenomena that violate laws of reality. Control was released in August 2019 for PS4 and is expected to be released for next-gen consoles in February 2021.
