Beyond Good and Evil 2: Release Date, Trailer, News & Rumors

Back in October 2016, shortly after Michel Ancel posted various teaser images onto his Instagram account, Ubisoft officially announced that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is in development.

While you may have watched the announcement trailers released in 2008 and 2009, Ancel later confirmed that Ubisoft decided to change the direction of this long-awaited game during development. This means that rather than creating a sequel, Ubisoft is going to make Beyond Good and Evil 2 a prequel to the 2003 cult hit, Beyond Good and Evil.

In spite of the fact that we refer to Beyond Good and Evil as a cult classic, you may be aware that the game didn’t immediately take off. While it was critically praised, BG&E was actually considered to be a commercial failure. Be that as it may, it was a game that gained the interest of many—which is exactly why Ubisoft is creating another one.

Over the last few years, Ubisoft has continued to give us more information on this upcoming action-adventure game through exciting trailers, colorful concept art, and some small-yet-intriguing details. Information that we are continuing to keep up-to-date with so that you know exactly what’s going on with BG&E2. With all of that being said, here’s everything we know about Beyond Good and Evil 2 so far.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Story: What Is It About?

If you’ve ever had the opportunity to play Beyond Good and Evil, you’ll know that it’s a testing action-adventure game set on the planet Hillys—a breathtaking world full of bright locations and quirky characters. With a focus on stealth and puzzle-solving, Beyond Good and Evil is a short-yet-impressive game that we highly recommend playing. If you haven’t had the chance, here’s everything you need to know:

Beyond Good and Evil puts you in control of the female protagonist, Jade, as well as her anthropomorphic pig uncle, Pey’j. As the planet Hillys is at war with a cold-blooded alien race, your main job is to work as a reporter in order to capture the truth. Contrasting how Jade was originally portrayed in Beyond Good and Evil, we see young Jade unexpectedly return in Beyond Good and Evil 2 as the game’s bad guy. But how else will this upcoming game compare with the previous installment?

In an interview with Jeux Vidéo Magazine, director Michel Ancel stated that Beyond Good and Evil 2 will “be in continuity with the first game, with a big variety of levels, lots of emotion in the gameplay, and characters we care about. This time we are dealing with the planet’s future, and the relationship with animals…

More specifically, Ubisoft mentioned that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is a game that will “transport players into a profoundly multicultural world, capturing the spirit of the original with grandiose decors and intense dramas that play out across a vast universe.

For some players, the large open world found in the succeeding installment will certainly feel nostalgic—at least, we’re hoping it does. At this very moment, we don’t know a whole lot in regards to the actual plot of Beyond Good and Evil 2, though we do know that it will be a narrative prequel to BG&E. We also know that the story will take place roughly a generation before the events of Beyond Good and Evil and the game will be set in System 3.

Beyond Good and Evil Gameplay

After many gameplay walkthroughs and gameplay updates, we can finally piece together what you may be able to do in Beyond Good and Evil 2. With an entire solar system to play in, Beyond Good and Evil 2 follows the original as a massive open-world game—one that we simply can’t wait for. As you take control of your fully customizable character (pirate), players will be able to trek across the world on foot, via a jetpack, on a flying motorbike and eventually a spaceship.

Once you finally get your very own ship, you will be able to fly around the city listening to the community created Space Pirate Radio. In the BEYOND GOOD & EVIL 2 – Gameplay Demo Walkthrough from May 2019, we got to see how you could completely customize your own ship.

This includes changing the color palette and even the gear used within the ship. Following the customization screen, the demo showed how you could fight with the police after breaking the law in the city. That’s right, even video games have laws!

After the fight, the gameplay demo walkthrough displayed how you could fly out of the atmosphere and into space. Albeit, do note that at the start of the game, you’ll have to stay within System 3. Once your progress in the game, you will be able to fly into space to explore the galaxy as a whole.

Later, developers explained how your pirate will have a shield so that they can breathe in space without difficulty when outside of their ship. So you won’t have to worry about losing oxygen in Beyond Good and Evil 2!

In terms of your goal in the game, Beyond Good and Evil 2 will feature quests and missions with a progression system that is based on skill, abilities, and resources—as seen in most RPGs.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Release Date

As to be expected, at this very moment, there’s no word of a release date for Beyond Good and Evil 2. Ubisoft didn’t give us any information on the game at E3 2019, either—so we’ll simply have to wait for the developers to spill the beans. With that said, we’re hoping to add Beyond Good and Evil 2 to our gaming collection this year in 2020. If we can’t, we’ll simply have to wait a few more years as most of us have already been doing.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Platforms

At this very moment, Ubisoft has not yet settled on what gaming platforms Beyond Good and Evil 2 will be released on. Having said that, Michel Ancel mentioned to Kotaku that BG&E2 will be designed to run on a range of platforms—whether that includes upcoming platforms, we currently do not know.

Considering the game was originally released for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, PC, and GameCube, we trust Ancel on this one. So expect Beyond Good and Evil 2 to be released on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Having said that, you can currently vote for your preferred platform (PC, PS4 or Xbox One) via the Beyond Good and Evil 2 beta sign-up page. However, do note that this list may not accurately represent the platforms that Beyond Good and Evil 2 will be released on.

How Much Will Beyond Good and Evil 2 Cost?

Despite the fact that we don’t yet have a release date for Beyond Good and Evil 2, the game is currently available to preorder on Amazon UK for £49.99. This is a little less than the standard price for video games in 2020 ($60), so we are hoping it’s worth every penny. At this moment, you can preorder it for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (physical or download code). Though, as we have mentioned, nothing is official as of yet.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Trailers

The first glimpse of Beyond Good and Evil 2 came after an announcement trailer was released in 2008. In The Original Beyond Good and Evil 2 Trailer (2008), we got to see the main protagonists seemingly stuck in a dessert after their car had broken down. As we have previously touched on, these trailers were essentially for a game that never existed since Ubisoft decided to change the direction of BG&E2.

Since the change in direction, Ubisoft has published a range of demos for the real prequel to Beyond Good and Evil. Now, as there are so many demo’s out there, we have decided to list all of the important ones so that you don’t miss a thing.

Last year, Ubisoft released a 4-minute cinematic trailer for Beyond Good and Evil 2, detailing the game’s setup and characters. You can watch the Beyond Good & Evil 2: E3 2018 Cinematic Trailer below:

For more information on the cinematic trailer, we highly recommend checking out the Beyond Good and Evil 2: E3 2018 Trailer Breakdown with Ubisoft Montpellier.

The official announcement trailer for Beyond Good and Evil 2 appeared at E3 2017 where we saw some familiar faces being chased down by the police.

Beyond Good and Evil 2: News and Features

As time passes, Ubisoft is continuing to give us more information on Beyond Good and Evil 2 through fascinating trailers and realistic concept art. However, considering there is so much information out there, we here at Game Gavel have decided to conveniently compile all of the latest news surrounding Beyond Good and Evil 2. Here’s everything we know so far:

Multiplayer

One question you’re probably dying to ask is: “Does Beyond Good and Evil 2 feature multiplayer?” Well, you’ll be pleased to know that Beyond Good and Evil 2 will, in fact, be playable online. Maybe you’re unhappy to hear such news? The frustration is completely understandable, especially if you’ve been waiting for 17-years for a brand new game.

Either way, Beyond Good and Evil 2 will be a single-player game that features optional co-op as well as online multiplayer. As far as we are aware, you will be able to play BG&E2 solo, though you won’t be able to play it offline. Therefore, you will require a constant internet connection to play Beyond Good and Evil 2.

NPC Recruitment

As you progress in Beyond Good and Evil 2, you’ll eventually have to expand your crew in order to succeed in battle—which is where Non-Player Characters (NPCs) come into play. Every NPC in Beyond Good and Evil 2 can be recruited and is said to have different backstories, motivations, and talents that will be useful in your team.

Character Customization

Throughout the Beyond Good and Evil 2: Space Monkey Report #6 for the Ubisoft Experience event in Paris, the Dev Team at Ubisoft gave us some more information on BG&E2. During the live stream, we were reintroduced to the female protagonist, Jade, through a range of badass concept sketches for Beyond Good and Evil 1 and 2.

We also got to see Dakini’s new look alongside a work-in-progress 3D sculpt of rhino-hybrid, Mammagos. The main twist, however, is that you won’t control Jade in Beyond Good and Evil 2. Instead, you’ll be able to create your own fully customizable character from a range of human or hybrid templates.

For more information on the hybrids that may appear in Beyond Good and Evil 2, we suggest taking a quick look at the Beyond Good and Evil 2 – Space Monkey Report #1 Live Stream.

Community Collaborations

During the Space Monkey Report #6 live stream, Ubisoft announced that they are continuing their partnership with HITRECORD! This means that fans can continue to get involved in the development of Beyond Good and Evil 2 in their own fun way.

By heading over to the BG&E2 community collaboration page, creative fans will be able to submit album art, pirate songs and voiceover recordings which may-or-may-not be used in Beyond Good and Evil 2. If you do manage to impress the team and your creation is selected for the game, you will even receive payment for participating—a small thank you from the Ubisoft Dev Team.

Conclusion
